Arthur Ashe acknowledges the crowd after defeating Jimmy Connors in four sets at the 1975 Wimbledon finals. Ashe, 35, was the underdog against 22-year-old Connors but kept the youngster off guard with a mix of pace and angles. The victory was Ashe’s first Wimbledon title and third Grand Slam overall. More importantly, the victory made him the first black male player to win at Wimbledon. (Tony Triolo/SI)
